Today at the zoo it was my job to clean the flamingo pond and feed the African Flamingos. Shorter in stature to the American flamingos and a little less pink, they are commonly known as lesser flamingos to zoologists. They filter feed on a blue-green algae called Spirulina while their head is literally upside down. Hence the beak shape. It's the algae that gives these birds their color. Check out how they feed in the next video.
