They were found on the corpse of their mother and one other deceased sibling but these four made it. If you ever see a possum on the side of the road the chances of them having babies with them are very high especially this time because it’s baby season. Possums are wonderful animals and quite often misunderstood. They have a lower body temperature so it makes it difficult for them to harbor the rabies virus. They eat thousands of ticks a day, which you know those nasty things carry diseases like Lyme disease. Also, fun fact when possums are born they must travel from birth canal to the pouch and then latch on to the mothers teat which interestingly is so long it actually goes down to their stomach. So if you see a baby possum latched to a corpse of their mother, don’t pry them off or you could potentially pull their stomach inside out.
