Had an experience today that brought tears to my eyes. I wanted to get some ice cream certificates as rizes for my students, so I stopped by made sure there weren't any other people in there and ordered a large number of certificates. As I waited for the clerk to count them out, I became aware of a line forming behind me. I turned around and apologized to the people, and told the lady six feet behind me I was getting them as a special treat for my students since I couldn't bring anything to class for them with distance learning. Word must have spread, because next thing I knew, a guy comes in and says, are you a teacher? Are you buying those for your students? I nod, and he slaps a bunch of cash on the counter and says, here are my tips from driving yesterday - put those towards your gift certificates.
And he thanked me for being a teacher. Then pretty soon some other people came up and put some more cash on the counter. When she rang it up and I started to hand her my card for the remainder, a lady told me to put my card away because she was going to cover the rest. Another person told her that he wanted to pay, too, so they agreed to split the rest in half. I was flabbergasted and choked up as I walked out and
