>be me
>currently living with grandmother since she cant safely live alone
>she adopted a tortoise decades ago, the thing is basically a living heirloom
>have to feed it since my gran can longer get out of bed
>it quickly grows fond of me and starts following me around every time it sees me
>likes it when I scratch it's neck
>ff to 3 days ago
>there's this asshole cat that kept shitting and pissing in the garden while harassing the tortoise
>After scaring and spraying him with water multiple times he seems to have learnt his lesson and has not come back
>notice birds chirping extremely loudly outside
>the cat was back and he had cornered a really small bird
>must have been really young, fell from his nest
>his parents were screaming but they couldnt do nothing except just fly around
>primal instincts rush in
>grab the nearest thing (a broom) and sprint towards the cat
>stab him with the shaft
>he hisses and runs away
>the birdling also flys away scared
>he is not able te get really far...
>chase him trying to take him to his parents
>flys away until he gets face to face with my tortoise
>slowly aprroach him and try to show him that i mean no harm by petting and scratching and my tortoise as I always do in front of him
>it worked
>i manage to grab him in one hand
>carefully pet him to show i am his friend
He was really soft and nice to the touch, very cute
>he eventually calms down and stayed in my palm
>the parents were still scared of me, so I dropped him in one of the branches of the tree
>stood there watching me until his parent came for him.
This may not sound that incredible, but this is the first time I felt pure happiness in a long time. I made a friend
